There are very few free zoos left in the country and Cohanzick Zoo is one of them. The zoo is more than 60 years old and displays more than 100 animals. Located in Bridgeton, NJ, the zoo is open daily from 8-4pm during the winter months and closes at 5pm the rest of the year.

The zoo has an interesting history. The City of Bridgeton website says that "in 1934, the City found itself in possession of a small herd of deer which the citizens thought should be exhibited. With this, the Cohanzick Zoo began. The zoo was named for the band of Lenape Indians who resided in Bridgeton alongside the river - as a result, they became known as the Cohanzick Indians."
