Whippany Train Museum

The Whippany Railway Museum has been open to the public since 1985. There are many exhibits and the museum contains a working model train set. The museum also operates a special excursion train for various events.
Trains depart in all weathers from the museum station. The ticket office opens at noon on the event day. It is recommended that you purchase tickets online in advance. Trains depart every hour from 1pm and the last train leaves at 4pm. The journey is a 10 mile 45 minute ride.

From Route 78 East (west of Route 287): (from Easton, Phillipsburg, and Clinton) Follow Route 78 East to Exit 21, Route 287 North - Morristown. Continue on Route 287 North to Exit 39, Route 10 East - Whippany. Continue with directions from Route 10 East.
From Route 78 East (east of Route 287): (from Watchung and Scotch Plains) Follow Route 78 East. When the highway splits up, stay in the LOCAL LANES to the exit for Route 24 West - Morristown. Pay special attention, as this is a left-hand lane exit ONLY. Continue with directions for Route 24 West.
From Route 78 West: (from Jersey City, Bayonne, Newark and Union) Follow Route 78 West LOCAL LANES to Exit 4B, West to Routes 24/287 Springfield-Morristown. Continue with directions for Route 24 West.
From Route 80 East: (from Stroudsburg, Netcong and Parsippany) Follow Route 80 East to Exit 43, Route 287 South - Morristown. Continue approximately 2 miles to Exit 39A, Route 10 East - Whippany. Continue with directions from Route 10 East.
From Route 80 West: (from New York, Hackensack and Totowa) Follow Route 80 West to Exit 43A, Route 287 South - Morristown. Note that you will need to stay in the local lanes to Route 287 to reach this exit. Continue approximately 2 miles on Route 287 South to Exit 39A, Route 10 East - Whippany. Continue with directions from Route 10 East.
From Route 287 North: (from Staten Island, Woodbridge, Basking Ridge, and Morristown) Follow Route 287 North to Exit 39, Route 10 East - Whippany. At end of exit ramp, continue onto Route 10 East. Continue with directions from Route 10 East.
From Route 287 South: (from Suffern, Oakland, Boonton and Parsippany) Follow Route 287 South to Exit 39A, Route 10 East - Whippany. At end of exit ramp, continue onto Route 10 East. Continue with directions from Route 10 East.
From Route 280 West: (from Kearny, West Orange, and Montclair) Follow Route 280 West to Exit 4A, Eisenhower Parkway SOUTH. At the end of the exit ramp, continue 2-1/2 miles on Eisenhower Parkway to Route 10 at the Livingston traffic circle. Bear right onto Route 10 West, and continue with the directions for Route 10 West.
From Route 280 East: Follow Route 280 East to Exit 4A, Eisenhower Parkway SOUTH. At the end of the exit ramp, continue 2-1/2 miles on Eisenhower Parkway to Route 10 at the Livingston traffic circle. Bear right onto Route 10 West, and continue with the directions for Route 10 West.
From Route 24 West: (from Union, Millburn, and Summit) Follow Route 24 Westbound past the Short Hills Mall and continue 6-1/4 miles to Exit 1B, Route 511 North - Whippany (Whippany Road). At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn right onto Whippany Road and travel 2 miles to Route 10. Cross over the highway - the Museum and Railroad Depot are behind the Exxon gas station and the Whippany Road jughandle.
From Route 10 East: (from Ledgewood, Dover and Morris Plains) Follow Route 10 East into Whippany and cross over the railroad tracks. Approximately 1/4 mile further is the jughandle for Troy Hills. Go around this jughandle and turn left onto Route 10 West. Travel approximately 1/10 of a mile to the Whippany Road jughandle. Bear right at the Exxon gas station - the Museum and Railroad Depot are directly behind the gas station and jughandle.
From Route 10 West: (from the Oranges and Livingston) Travel on Route 10 West past the Livingston traffic circle and continue four miles through Livingston, East Hanover and Whippany. At the Whippany Road jughandle, bear right at the Exxon gas station. The Museum and Railroad Depot are directly behind the gas station and jughandle.
From Route 46 East or West: Take Route 46 to the Parsippany area, and turn onto S. Beverwyck Road - Whippany. Continue approximately 2 miles to Route 10 (road becomes Troy Hills Road). Turn right onto Route 10 West, and go 1/4 miles to the Whippany Road jughandle. Bear right at the Exxon gas station - the Museum and Railroad Depot are directly behind the gas station and jughandle.
From the Jersey Shore and Points in Central and Southern New Jersey: (via the Garden State Parkway) Take the Garden State Parkway North to the Union Toll Plaza and exit at Route 78 East. Once on Route 78 East, follow the directional signs for Route 78 WEST. After entering Route 78 West, follow the directions for Route 78 West.
From Central and Southern New Jersey: (via the New Jersey Turnpike) Take the Turnpike North to the Woodbridge area and take Exit 10, Route 287 North. Follow Route 287 North approximately 40 miles to Exit 39, Route 10 East - Whippany. Continue with directions for Route 10 East.
