The picturesque, rolling hillsides of 3,600-acre Valley Forge National Historical Park are a peaceful reminder of freedom won by men’s sacrifices long ago. It was here that General George Washington forged his Continental Army into a fighting force, during the winter encampment of 1777-78.

June 2007 - This was one of our many memorable road trips.  And for so many reasons!  It was a beautiful day, from what I can recall.

The weather was perfect.  The landscape was beautiful.  There were some costumed employees who answered questions on parts of the trail.  It was truly lovely.  And oh!  The deer!  There were so many.

My only complaint is that we had no idea how long the trail actually was.  Although we made stops along the way, I and the children were thoroughly exhausted by the time we made the loop back to the visitors' center.

And, as a warning, make sure you spray yourselves thoroughly with tick repellent!  I didn't even think of the possibility because I've never encountered a tick in my life and we did not know there were going to be so many deer out there.

There are many places to stop and enjoy the scenery, so pack a picnic blanket and make some sandwiches!  Bring plenty of water if you intend on walking the entire loop.

Now, there are, apparently, many other things to do at Valley Forge, but we kept it simple.  If you want to know what else there is out there and in the surrounding areas, be sure to visit the Valley Forge website at http://www.valleyforge.org/.
